An intruiging expression of the variety. A mix of winemaking techniques, carefully and artfully curated, to show a distinct wine of it's place and time. Some old barrels, a tiny and careful use of skins. Some direct press to stainless steel. Coming together to really showcase the quality of the grapes.
It's juicy with tropical fruits and meyer lemon with slight peppery seasoning. I love Gruner... this is a special one.
Herzanovi is another family winery that we love to feature. This one's located in the village of Kobylí, Czechia. Where they farm around 4ha of vines organically and are in conversion to certified biodynamics (they co-founded the Czech-Slovak branch of Demeter). They work mostly with typical local varieties that work so well in Moravia (Blaufrankisch, Sylvaner, Gruner Veltliner, Cabernet Moravia). This family is really making great strides with their focus on natural wines including nice use of quervi and amfora buried in the garden. They recently started doing pet-nats which we had and absolutely flew off the shelves so stay tuned for the next vintages.
