Pinot Gris is the somewhat more serious older brother to Pinot Grigio. He's sometimes considered to be a bit more complex and comes with a bit more age and wisdom.
This is a lovely example from down the road in South Moravia, Czechia. It's a classic example of Pinot Gris made completely naturally, aged 12 months in older wooden barrels meaning it has cleverly traded some acidity for some structure and body to create a well balanced wine of great quality.
Very drinkable on it's own or with Cepillinai. Or any other buttery, creamy dish.
Jaroslav Osička is one of the pioneers of natural wine-making in Czechia and actually taught/influenced the craft when he taught at the local wine college. He has been farming organically since the early 80's, quite early for any winery, anywhere. I love the sincerity of each of his wines. They carry a balance that is so tight, so delicately crafted. I actually planned to carry quite a few of his wines, but no surprise, they were sold out before I got the chance. We will definitely be getting more as soon as we can. Because they're just frickin amazing. These may not be "sexy" or "cool" wines, but they are fucking incredible wines.
