About Aristotelis Ke Anthoula:
Aristotelis Ke Anthoula is the project of Sydney born and raised couple Tony Zafirakos and his partner Maddison. The project officially began in 2016 but this is a story of modern Australia and the generations of migrants that make up the unique and beautiful tapestry that is so special and is the crux of modern Australian food and wine culture.
Tony, the son of Greek Migrants (Aristotelis and Anthoula) who moved to Australia from rural Greece in the early 80's, grew up making wine in the garage with his parents in their beachside suburb home in Sydney.
The parents always had the desire to make wines in the traditional, natural way that they knew from home. And until 2016 it was mostly a hobby. Then Tony convinced them to take it to the next level and after a number of years spent working with natural wine producers in Italy, Germany and, of course, Greece he returned home to step-by-step go from humble garage operation to a full-scale natural winery (yet still humble people!) who over the years have become known not just in Australia but across the world now for outstanding natural wines. Selling wine to Japan for a number of years, a little to the US and now Europe!
We love the wines and the people behind them. But also feel a connection to their story (Sean grew up in multicultural Sydney where his neighbours and friends were families just like Tony and Mads - whether Greek, Italian, Thai, Lebanese, Chinese... this tapestry is what make Australian food and wine world-class and so unique) and feel it best represents OUR modern Australian wine/winery perhaps better than any other wine/winery we know of. And we are SO excited to share it with another corner of the world - bringing a taste of the Australian coast, mountains and sun to Lithuania via wine.
The grapes are sourced from organic growers mostly in the cool mountinous areas of Southern NSW and procesed at their winery in Pambula on the far south coast of NSW. They mostly hone-in on Italian varietals that are so suited to the area and offer great drought and heat tolerance yet produce grapes of wonderful complexity and freshness. All the wines are unfiltered/fined, are wild yeast fermented and are zero-zero, so nothing added including sulphur.
